My latest trip to Atánquez, deep within the lush mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, brought me back to the heart of my ancestors' land. Vivid, emerald-green slopes spread endlessly across the horizon, crowned by mist that drifts softly over towering peaks. The air is rich with the aroma of fertile earth, an ever-present fragrance of life and constant renewal. These are life expressions pulsing through every leaf and stream, a tangible reminder of the abundance and natural harmony that our land holds.
This connection to our sacred environment inspired Primordial Kankurwa, our latest short film co-created by Isaías Montaño and me, which will be showcased at the CineSpace event in Houston, Texas, on November 17th at 5:00 PM CST. Primordial Kankurwa blends NASA’s public footage with our recordings from the Sierra Nevada, offering a unique glimpse into the wisdom of the Kogi, Arhuaco, Wiwa, and Kankuamo peoples. It explores our worldview, where the universe is seen as a cyclical flow of life and energy. Our Kankurwas—circular ceremonial houses—embody this cosmic cycle and our enduring role as guardians of the earth’s delicate balance.
This documentary is a call for unity and deeper understanding between our ancient knowledge and modern institutions. We hope it encourages conversations about preserving harmony and honoring our connection with the world.
Bring your friends and family to CineSpace for this free celebration of storytelling and space exploration. Join us in honoring the universe’s boundless cycles and the ancestral wisdom that keeps our planet in balance.
